A Modern Grapevine Nursery
Enric Regull Today:Centre vitícola del Penedès, Casa Jaume Sabaté
At Enric Regull, we are constantly evolving to continue offering top-quality grapevines. Our philosophy is based on innovation, customer proximity, and continuous improvement of our processes. With the Viticulture Center of Penedès as a reference, we ensure sustainable production with a special focus on the traceability and health of plant material.
Currently, we graft over 2 million grapevines annually, thanks to our infrastructure, which includes facilities in Catalonia and Extremadura. We offer a wide range of certified varieties and rootstocks to provide the best options for every winegrower and ensure the success of their plantations. Our priority is to deliver quality products with personalized service, offering technical advice throughout the selection, planting, and vineyard management process.
Our History
Over 100 years of experience in vine nursery production.
Foundation of Centre vitícola del Penedès, Casa Jaume Sabaté
In 1887, when the first symptoms of phylloxera appeared in Penedès, Jaume Sabaté Herms (1859-1929) established connections with French sectors affected by the plague to study the best solutions for addressing the disaster. He decided to replant with American rootstocks, quickly introducing the available varieties to our country to begin the vineyard recovery process.
Visit from King Alfonso XIII and a Generational Change
For decades, the cultivated varieties expanded, introducing new ones that offered better rooting results, adaptability to different soils, and compatibility with vinifera varieties. Pere Regull Pagés (1892-1971), a former business partner of Jaume Sabaté in wine exportation and other agricultural products, took over the center’s leadership in 1929 when Jaume Sabaté retired from active work.
Expansion and Innovation
The First Base Material Plantations
In 1979, Enric Regull Llorach (1928) began the first BASE MATERIAL plantations, replacing previous rootstocks with others of superior quality.
These clones were sourced from major research centers in France, the United States, and Spain, always aiming to improve quality and performance.
Currently, the general director is Enric Regull Riba (1963). In 2001, with the goal of increasing production, he expanded operations to Extremadura to experiment with grapevine nurseries in the region. The following year, after seeing promising results, he decided to build a facility there and establish part of the production activity in that area.
Expansion to Extremadura and 135 Years of Experience
Committed to innovation, we have incorporated the Thermotherapy Machine, the most advanced system for eradicating and controlling fungal diseases and pests in grapevines. This technology, along with cleaning machinery that ensures more hydrated and clean vines, enables us to deliver grapevines with exceptional health quality. Additionally, we continue expanding our range with new varieties and clones, notably the CVP80 trademark vines, showcasing our commitment to excellence and progress in the sector.
