Enric Regull- Varietat Albariño

Origin

Synonyms

There is no officially recognized synonym for this variety in France or other European Union countries.

Phenology

  • Budburst period: 1 day before the Chasselas variety.
  • Ripening period: Period 1, 1 and a half weeks after the Chasselas variety.

Technological potential

The clusters and berries are small in size. This variety has a very high quality potential and allows for the production of dry white wines, sparkling wines, and even fortified wines. The sugar content of the berries can reach high levels while maintaining significant acidity, resulting in particularly well-balanced, powerful, and broad wines (with great texture and volume). The aromas are typical, complex, and intense (dried fruits, hazelnut, toasted notes, exotic fruits, butter, etc.). Chardonnay is also well-suited to barrel aging and fermentation.

Agronomic characteristics

  • Long pruning is typically used for Chardonnay.
  • However, in climatic zones favorable to floral initiation, short pruning may be used.
  • The terrains best suited to this variety are moderately fertile soils with a predominance of limestone or marl.
  • In the Mediterranean region, it is advisable to avoid situations of excessive drought.
